Effect of alfalfa and dry material mixing time on the uniformity and moisture content of alfalfa before ensilage
The relationship between mixing time and uniformity and moisture content of alfalfa silage were studied, which provided a scientific and reasonable alfalfa mixed silage process.A total of 7 mixed treatments(80%M+10%Y,80%M+15%Y,75%M+10%Y,75%M+15%Y,75%M+15%Y,70%M+10%Y,70%M+15%Y,65%M+5%Y)were designed according to the appropriate moisture content(60%),while five mixing time treatments(3,5,7,9,11 min)for each additives.Homogeneity of mixing were determined by sieving method, and the moisture content of alfalfa mixed silage before fermentation were determined by oven drying method. The results showed that the mixing uniformity of each treatment could reach more than 90%when the mixing time was 5 min, among which 70%M+10%Y had the best mixing uniformity of 93.47%;80%M+15%Y had the best mixing uniformity of 95.44%when the mixing time was 7 min; Before mixed silage fermentation, the moisture content of 65%M+5%Y gradually approached 60%with the extension of mixing time;75%M+15%Y had the best mixing uniformity of 95.44%.Before mixed silage fermentation, the moisture content of 65%M+5%Y gradually approached 60%with the increase of mixing time;the moisture content of 75%M+15%Y was closest to 60%at 7 min of mixing, which was 59.41%.Therefore,the suitable mixing time was beneficial to adjust the uniformity and moisture content of alfalfa mixed silage, and thus improve its fermentation quality.
