The effects of eucommia bark extract on growth performance, serum biochemical indexes, meat quality and economic benefits of fattening pigs
The aim of this experiment was to study the effects of Eucommia bark extract on the growth performance, serum biochemical indexes and meat quality of fattening pigs. One hundred and sixty Eucommia longifolia ternary crossbred fattening pigs were selected and equally divided into control group(basal diet),test group I(basal diet+100 mg/kg Eucommia longifolia leaf extract),test group II(basal diet+200 mg/kg Eucommia longifolia leaf extract),and test group III(basal diet+300 mg/kg Eucommia longifolia leaf extract),with four replicates in each group and 10 fattening pigs in each replicate, the experiment lasted for 50 days,5 fattening pigs were randomly selected from each group to compare the growth performance, serum biochemical indexes and meat quality. The results showed that the end weight, average daily weight gain, average daily feed intake, and feed-to-weight ratio of fattening pigs in each experimental group were significantly different from those of the control group(P<0.05);the TP,BUN,and ALT of each experimental group were significantly different from those of the control group(P<0.05);and the pH45min,pH24 h,shear strength, muscle fat, marbling score, and L* of fattening pigs in each experimental group,b*were all significantly different(P<0.05)compared with the control group. In conclusion, the addition of appropriate amount of Eucommia aurantium leaf extract to the fattening pig ration can effectively enhance the growth performance of the organism and improve its serum biochemical indexes and meat quality.
