Effects of poria cocos extract on serum biochemical indicators and lipid metabolism in meat rabbits
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Poria cocos extract on serum biochemical indexes and lipid metabolism of meat rabbits.A total of 400 healthy 30-day-old weaned rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups with 10 replicates per group and 10 rabbits per replicate. The experimental diet was supplemented with 0%,0.05%,0.1%and 0.2%poria polysaccharides in the base diet, respectively, and the experiment lasted for 42 days(pre-feeding period was 5 days and experimental period was 37 days). The results showed that dietary supplementation of 0.2%poria cocos extract could significantly increase the contents of serum total protein and albumin of meat rabbits(P<0.05).Dietary supplementation of 0.1%and 0.2%poria cocos extract significantly decreased serum triglyceride content(P<0.05),and significantly increased serum insulin content and alanine aminotransferase activity of meat rabbits(P<0.05).However,there were no significant effects on serum leptin and very low density lipoprotein contents and the activities of alkaline phosphatase and ASpartate transaminase in meat rabbits(P>0.05).Dietary addition of poria cocos extract significantly decreased the percentage of shoulder fat and kidney fat(P<0.05),but had no significant effect on the percentage of pericardial fat in meat rabbits(P>0.05).The foreleg muscle percentage and hind leg muscle percentage of meat rabbits in 0.1%and 0.2%supplementation groups were significantly increased(P<0.05).0.2%supplementation group significantly increased the expressions of CPT-1,CPT-2 and PPAR-α genes in liver of meat rabbits(P<0.05),but had no significant effects on the expressions of FAS and ACC genes(P>0.05).In conclusion, the results of this experiment showed that dietary supplementation of Pachycoia extract could enhance lipolysis and promote the growth and development of meat rabbits.
