The effect of flaxseed meal on the growth performance, carcass quality, and muscle fatty acid composition of fattening pigs
The aim of this experiment is to investigate the effects of flaxseed meal on the growth performance, carcass quality, and muscle fatty acid composition of fattening pigs.160 growing pigs with a weight of(71.49±1.48)kg and good health were selected and randomly divided into 4 groups according to the principle of male and female half, with 5 replicates in each group and 8 pigs in each replicate.Feed experimental diets with 0,4,8,and 12%flaxseed meal instead of soybean meal separately.Test duration 42 days. The experimental results showed that adding 4%and 8%flaxseed meal to the diet significantly increased the final body weight of fattening pigs by 2.84%and 4.04%(P<0.05);The addition of 4%and 8%flaxseed meal to the feed significantly increased the average daily weight gain of fattening pigs by 8.13%and 12.14%(P<0.05);The addition of 8%flaxseed meal to the feed significantly reduced the feed weight ratio of fattening pigs by 7.94%(P<0.05);In addition, adding flaxseed meal to the feed had no significant effect on the average daily feed intake of fattening pigs(P>0.05).Adding 4%flaxseed meal to the diet significantly reduced the content of myristic acid(C14:0)in the muscle of fattening pigs(P<0.05),and significantly reduced the content of stearic acid(C18:0)(P<0.05);The addition of 4%and 8%flaxseed meal to the diet significantly reduced the content of palmitic acid(C16:0)in the muscle of fattening pigs(P<0.05),while the total fatty acid content significantly increased(P<0.05);The addition of flaxseed meal to the diet significantly increased the content of eicosenoic acid(C20:1)in the muscle of fattening pigs(P<0.05);The addition of 8%flaxseed meal to the diet significantly reduced the saturated fatty acid content in the muscle of fattening pigs(P<0.05),and the monounsaturated fatty acid content significantly decreased(P<0.05).Under the conditions of this experiment, the optimal amount of flaxseed meal added is 8%.
