Effect of replacing soybean meal with cottonseed meal in basic diet on growth performance, serum biochemical indicators, and immune function of finishing pigs
This experiment aims to investigate the effects of replacing soybean meal with cottonseed meal in the basic diet on the growth performance, serum biochemical indicators, and immune function of finishing pigs.160 Duroc fattening pigs with similar initial body weight were selected and randomly divided into 4 groups, with 5 replicates in each group and 8 fattening pigs in each replicate. The experiment was conducted based on the"Nutritional Requirements of Pigs"(GB/T 39235-2020)to configure a basic diet. Each group of finishing pigs were replaced with soybean meal in the basic diet with nitrogen such as 0%,5%,10%,and 15%cottonseed meal, and were recorded as the 0%cottonseed meal group,5%cottonseed meal group,10%cottonseed meal group, and 15%cottonseed meal group. The pre trial period is 7 days, and the trial period is 56 days.Result:(1)The 15%cottonseed meal group significantly reduced the end weight and average daily gain of finishing pigs compared to the 0%cottonseed meal group(P<0.05),and the feed to weight ratio was significantly higher than the 0%cottonseed meal group(P<0.05).(2)The serum total protein and globulin content of the 15%cottonseed meal group in fattening pigs were significantly lower than that of the 0%cottonseed meal group(P<0.05).(3)The serum IgG content of fattening pigs in the 10%and 15%cottonseed meal groups was significantly lower than that in the 0%and 5%cottonseed meal groups(P<0.05),and the liver index was significantly lower than that in the 0%cottonseed meal group(P<0.05).Compared with the 0%and 5%cottonseed meal groups, the 15%cottonseed meal group significantly reduced the kidney index of fattening pigs(P<0.05).Conclusion:Under the conditions of this experiment, replacing soybean meal in the basal diet with nitrogen such as 5%and 10%cottonseed meal did not affect the growth performance and serum biochemical indicators of fattening pigs. However, replacing soybean meal in the basal diet with nitrogen such as 10%and 15%cottonseed meal would reduce the immune function of fattening pigs.
