Research progress of effects of low protein diet on digestion and metabolism, rumen fermentation parameters and microorganisms of sheep
Protein is the first limiting nutrient in ruminant nutrition based on low quality roughage. In recent years, the shortage of protein feed resources in China is mainly dependent on imports, especially the shortage of high-quality protein feed and the high price, the high feeding cost, and the intake of high protein diets lead to a large number of methane and nitrogen emissions of livestock and poultry, which intensifies the pollution to the environment. Therefore, exploring and solving the above problems from the perspective of dietary protein is the hot spot of current research. This paper briefly described the concept of low protein diet, and focused on the effects of low protein diet on digestion and metabolism of sheep, rumen fermentation parameters and microorganisms,in order to provide scientific theoretical basis for the allocation of protein levels in actual sheep production.
