Effects of chlorogenic acid and baicalin on intestinal morphology, antioxidant and immune functions of broilers challenged with lipopolysaccharide
This experiment aimed to investigate the effects of scutellaria baicalensis extract(CAB)on the intestinal morphology, antioxidant and immune functions in broilers challenged with lipopolysaccharide(LPS).A total of 240 1-day-old healthy AA male broilers with uniform weight were randomly assigned to 3 treatment groups, with 8 replicates in each group, and 10 birds each. The animal trial lasted for 21 days.Birds in the control group were fed with the basic diet, broilers in the LPS treated group were fed with the basic diet and injected with LPS.Birds in the LPS+CAB group were fed with a basal diet supplemented with 500 mg/kg CAB and injected with LPS.At the end of the animal trial, broilers in the LPS treatment group and LPS+CAB treatment group were intraperitoneally injected with LPS(1 mg/kg BW),while the control group was injected with an equal amount of physiological saline. The samples were harvested 3 hours later. Results showed that compared with the control group, the levels of IgG and IgA in the blood of the LPS treated group were significantly increased by 11.93%and 20.47%,respectively(P<0.01);Compared with the LPS treatment group, the IgA content in the blood of the LPS+CAB treatment group was significantly increased by 10.64%(P<0.01);Compared with the control group, the contents of IL-1[3,IL-10,IL-17 and TNF-α in the spleen of the LPS treated group were significantly increased by 112.29%,79.12%,86.88%and 181.13%,respectively(P<0.01);Compared with the LPS treatment group, the contents of IL-6,IL-10,IL-17 and TGF-[3 in the spleen of the LPS+CAB treatment group were significantly increased by 43.84%,79.61%,100.88%and 74.60%(P<0.01),respectively.The contents of IFN-γ and IL-1[3 in the spleen of the LPS+CAB treatment group were significantly reduced by 43.56%and 20.77%(P<0.01),respectively;Compared with the control group, the content of MDA in the blood of the LPS treatment group significantly increased by 43.68%(P<0.05);Compared with the control group, the height of ileal villi in the LPS treated group was significantly reduced by 25.43%(P<0.05);Compared with the LPS treatment group, the LPS+CAB treatment group significantly increased the ileal villus height by 15.90%(P<0.05).In conclusion, the anti-oxidative function and immunity were negatively affected by LPS treatment, and dietary supplemental with 500 mg/kg CAB could alleviate it.
