The effects of enteromorpha polysaccharide on growth performance, serum biochemical indicators, and rumen fermentation parameters of beef cattle
To investigate the effects of adding Enteromorpha polysaccharide(EP)to the diet on the growth performance, serum biochemical indicators, and rumen fermentation parameters of beef cattle.120 healthy Western crossbred beef cattle with similar age and weight[(291.37±13.82)kg]were randomly divided into 4 groups, with 5 replicates in each group and 6 cows in each replicate. Each group was fed experimental feed with 0,300,600,and 1200 mg/kg EP added to the basic feed. The entire feeding experiment lasted for 80 days, including a 7-day pre trial and a 73 day trial. The results showed that,Compared with the control group, the FBW of beef cattle in the 600 and 1200 mg/kg EP groups was significantly increased by 3.03% and 2.79%,respectively(P<0.05).The ADG of beef cattle in the 1200 mg/kg EP group was significantly increased by 8.28%,9.29%,and 8.11%,respectively(P<0.05)compared to the other groups; The F/G of beef cattle in the 1200 mg/kg EP group was significantly reduced by 5.91%,7.17%,and 5.99% compared to the other groups,respectively(P<0.05).The serum IgA content of beef cattle in the 300 mg/kg EP group was significantly reduced compared to the control group(P<0.05);The serum IgA content of beef cattle in the 600 mg/kg EP group significantly increased(P<0.05);There was no significant difference in serum IgA content between the 1200 mg/kg EP group and the control group(P>0.05);The serum IgG content of beef cattle in the 300~1200 mg/kg EP group significantly increased(P<0.05);The serum SOD activity was significantly increased(P<0.05)and the urea nitrogen content was significantly reduced(P<0.05)in the 600 and 1200 mg/kg EP groups of beef cattle. The rumen microbial protein content of beef cattle in the 300-1200 mg/kg EP group significantly increased(P<0.05);The total volatile fatty acid content in the rumen of beef cattle in the 1200 mg/kg EP group was significantly increased(P<0.05);The proportion of propionic acid in the rumen of beef cattle in the 300~1200 mg/kg EP group significantly increased(P<0.05).(Experimental conclusion):EP can promote the growth and development of beef cattle by improving their serum biochemical indicators and rumen fermentation.Under the experimental conditions, the optimal dosage of 1200 mg/kg is optimal.
