The effect of compound chemical treatment of corn straw on the growth performance and rumen fermentation parameters of meat sheep
The experiment aims to investigate the effects of compound chemical treatment of corn straw on the growth performance and rumen fermentation parameters of meat sheep.120 healthy Hu sheep of similar initial weight(19.86±1.25kg)at the age of 3 months were selected and randomly divided into 4 groups, with 3 replicates in each group and 10 sheep in each replicate. The control group was fed with basic diet(using corn stover as roughage),while the other three groups were pretreated with corn stover using alkalization(3% calcium hydroxide),ammonification(3% urea),and alkalization+ammonification(3% calcium hydroxide+3% urea),and were recorded as alkalization group, ammonification group, and compound chemical treatment group. Each group of sheep was fed a fully mixed diet(TMR)technique, with a pre trial period of 10 days and a trial period of 90 days.Result:(1)Compared with the control group, the ammonification group increased the average daily weight gain of meat sheep by 9.83% (P<0.05),and the feed to weight ratio decreased by 8.04% (P<0.05);The average daily weight gain of meat sheep in the composite chemical treatment group increased by 11.05% (P<0.05),and the feed to weight ratio decreased by 9.06% (P<0.05).(2)Compared with the control group, the pH value, total volatile fatty acids, and acetic acid content in the rumen fluid of the alkaline group significantly increased(P<0.05);The content of ammonia nitrogen, total volatile fatty acids, and acetic acid in the rumen fluid of sheep in the ammonification group was significantly increased(P<0.05);The pH value, ammonia nitrogen, total volatile fatty acids, and acetic acid content in the rumen fluid of the composite chemical treatment group significantly increased(P<0.05).Conclusion:Feeding corn stover with different chemical treatments improved the growth performance of meat sheep and improved rumen fermentation parameters.Overall, the combined chemical treatment method of alkalization and ammonification is more effective.
