Study on anti-inflammatory activity of 17 chinese herbal medicines in vitro
Using the ultrasonic extraction method and distilled water and ethanol as extraction solvents, aqueous extract and alcohol extract of 17 different Chinese herbal medicines were obtained. It was then applied to the LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells model to assess the anti-inflammatory effect by detecting the effects of the extract on cell survival rate and inflammatory mediators(NO,IL-6,11L-1β,TNF-α),to identify the extract with the best anti-inflammatory effect, and to investigate its mechanism of action. The result showed that the ethanolic extracts of Artemisia annua,Artemisia frigida Wild.,Pulsatilla chinensis,Artemisia dracunculus L.,pericarps of Dictamnus dasycarpus Turcz.,Oxytropis polyphylla DC.,seed coat of Astragalus adsurgens Pall.,fungus rods of Ganoderma lucidum,Atractylodes Lancea DC.,Allium senescens L.and the aqueous extract of Artemisia annua,Artemisia frigida Wild.,Vicia cracca L.,Sorbaria sorbifolia L.,Xanthium sibiricum L.,Rubia cordifolia L.had no cytotoxic effect on the cells.By evaluating the in vitro anti-inflammatory activity of ethanolic extract and aqueous extract of Chinese herbal medicine, which revealed that the aqueous extract of Artemisia frigida Wild.had the best anti-inflammatory capacity which may exert anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the mRNA expression of IKKβ,p65 and IKKα in the NF-κB signaling pathway. These results provide a theoretical basis for the development and application of Artemisia frigida Wild.for the control of bacterial enteritis in livestock and poultry.
