Effect of compound herbal additives on the production performance and intestinal flora of young Hy-line brown hens
This study was conducted to study the effects of compound Chinese herbal additives including licorice, jujube, pomegranate peel and wolfberry on growth performance, early laying performance, antioxidant capacity and intestinal flora of young Hyline brown laying hens.In this experiment,600 healthy young Hyline brown laying hens aged 12 weeks were randomly divided into 3 groups, with 4 replicates in each group and 50 chickens in each replicate. The control group was fed a basal diet, and trial group Ⅰ and trial group Ⅱ were fed the basal diet supplemented with 0.2% and 0.4% compound Chinese herbal additives, respectively. The pre-feeding period was 2 weeks and the normal feeding period was 8 weeks. The results showed that:(1)Dietary supplementation of 0.4% compound Chinese herbs effectively increased the daily gain, daily feed intake, and decreased the feed to weight ratio of Hyline brown laying hens(P>0.05).Dietary supplementation of 0.2% and 0.4% compound Chinese herbs effectively increased the initial laying rate of young Hyline brown laying hens, and decreased the ratio of feed to egg and the rate of broken eggs(P<0.05).Advance the starting age of labor;(2)Dietary supplementation of 0.2% and 0.4% compound Chinese herbs significantly increased the contents of glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px),catalase(CAT)and total antioxidant capacity(T-AOC)in serum of Hyline Brown laying hens, and decreased the content of malondialdehyde(MDA)(P<0.05);(3)At the phylum level, the cecal microflora of Hy-line brown laying hens supplemented with 0.2% and 0.4% Chinese herbal additives showed that the abundance of beneficial bacteria such as Bacteroidetes was increased, while the abundance of harmful bacteria such as Proteobacteria was decreased;(4)At the genus level, the cecal microbiota of Hyline brown laying hens supplemented with 0.2% and 0.4% Chinese herbal medicine additives showed that the abundance of Koala was lower than that of the control group(P<0.05),the abundance of Bacteroides,Prasurella and Trispirillum was increased, and the abundance of Ruminococcus was decreased(P>0.05).In conclusion, dietary supplementation of 0.4% licorice, jujube, pomegranate peel and wolfberry(1:1:1:1)compound Chinese herbal additives could improve performance, antioxidant capacity and intestinal flora structure of young Hyline brown laying hens.
