Research progress on the application of adding seaweed to feed in methane emissions and production of ruminants
At present, global warming has become a serious environmental challenge,in the livestock industry, methane emissions account for 14.5%~19%of global methane emissions, mainly generated by ruminants. In recent years, the use of feed additives in diets to reduce methane emissions from ruminants has become a research hotspot, especially the use of seaweed as feed additives to slow down methane emissions from ruminants.China has a vast coastline, seaweed production is abundant, and the active ingredients and plant secondary metabolites in seaweed also have a positive impact on animal production applications while reducing methane emissions. In this paper, the nutrient composition of seaweed, the influence of chemicals in seaweed on methane emissions, and the application of seaweed in ruminant production were reviewed,in order to provide reference for the use of seaweed as a ruminant feed additive.
