Effects of different combinations of roughages on growth performance,rumen morphology and meat quality of lambs
In order to investigate the effects of different combinations of roughage on the growth performance,rumen morphology and meat quality of lambs,48 lambs of about 1.5 months of age were selected and randomly divided into 4 groups.The roughage for the control group,test group 1,test group 2 and test group 3 was 50%kneaded dry straw,35%micro-storage straw+15%kneaded dry straw,35%ammoniated straw+15%kneaded dry straw,17.5%micro-storage straw+17.5%ammoniated straw+15%kneaded dry straw,respectively.The results showed that:average daily weight gain,test group 2>test group 3>test group 1>control group,the difference between test group 2 and test group 3 was highly significant compared with test group 1,which increased by 10.78%and 14.18%,respectively(P<0.05),there was no significant difference between test group 2 and test group 3(P>0.05).The average daily feed intake of test group 3 was significantly higher than that of test group 1 and control group by 11.38%and 18.20%,respectively(P<0.05).The feed-to-weight ratio was significantly lower in group 2 than in the control group by 13.19%(P<0.05).Rumen papilla length,test group 1 and test group 3 were significantly higher than the control group by 23.39%and 36.95%(P<0.05),respectively.Rumen papilla width and muscle thickness,test group 3 was significantly higher than the control group by 48.59%and 12.95%(P<0.05).Pre-slaughter weight and eye muscle area were significantly higher in test group 3 than in the control group by 9.36%and 11.74%(P<0.05);Carcass weight and slaughter rate were significantly higher in test group 2 and test group 3 than in the control group by 14.20%,6.21%,17.29%and 7.23%respectively(P<0.05);and the value of carcass fat content(GR)was significantly lower in test group 3 than in the control group and test group 1(P<0.05).which decreased by 24.91%and 18.22%(P<0.05),respectively.Muscle brightness,L*,was significantly higher in test group 1 than in the control group by 9.84%(P<0.05);muscle redness,a*,was significantly higher in test group 1 than in the control group and test group 2,which increased by 8.99%and 5.75%,respectively(P<0.05);and shear force and water loss were significantly lower in test group 1 than in the control group and test group 2,which decreased by 19.02%,8.74%,12.31%and 7.23%,respectively.Cooked meat rate,test group 1 was significantly higher than the control group and test group 2,increased by 7.47%,5.21%(P<0.05).The above results indicated that ammoniated straw and ammoniated+micro-storage straw were more effective in improving the growth performance of lambs;ammoniated+micro-storage straw was more effective in improving the morphological development of the rumen and the slaughter rate of lambs;and micro-storage straw was more effective in improving the meat quality of lambs.
