Effects of cathelicidin on production, slaughter performance and blood composition of Tan sheep
The purpose of the experiment was to study the effect of antimicrobial peptides added to the diet of Tan sheep on production, slaughter performance, and blood composition.A total of 92 Tan sheep aged 6 months were selected and randomly divided them into 2 different experimental groups based on their body size and weight, with 46 sheep in each experimental group. The experiment lasted for 60 days. The results showed that:(1)The incidence rate of the experimental group was 75.06%lower than that of the control group;(2)The daily average weight gain of the experimental group increased by 11.27%compared with the control group(P<0.05);(3)The usage of feed in the experimental group decreased by 8.45%compared with the control group(P<0.05);(4)The daily average gross profit of the experimental group increased by 12.12%compared with the control group;(5)Although there was no significant difference in slaughter indicators between the two groups, the experimental group had significantly higher ketone body weight, slaughter rate, net meat weight, and net meat rate than the control group by 2.11%,1.27%,3.66%and 1.52%.The bone to meat ratio of the experimental group was significantly lower than that of the control group by 0.61%;(6)After 45 minutes and 24 hours of slaughter, the pH of fresh meat was within the normal range. However, there was no statistically significant difference in indicators such as cooked meat rate, water loss rate, marbling, meat color, and shear strength among different groups(P>0.05);(7)The levels of white blood cells, lymphocytes, and platelets in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group by 17.91%,26.38%,and 28.39%(P<0.01),while the levels of red blood cells and hemoglobin were significantly higher than those in the control group by 10.76%and 9.89%(P<0.05).The levels of neutrophils and monocytes were significantly lower than those in the control group by 9.68%and 18.18%(P<0.05).In conclusion that the supplementation of 2.5 g/d antimicrobial peptide in the diet could effectively reduce the incidence rate of Tan sheep diseases, improve the resistance and economic benefits of Tan sheep.
