Effects of portulaca oleracea extract on growth performance, lipid metabolism and breeding efficiency in rabbits
[Absrtact]To investigate the effects of Portulaca oleracea extract on the growth performance, lipid metabolism, and economic benefits of rabbit farming, this experiment selected 200 healthy 30 days old weaned rabbits with a body weight of(0.64±0.01)kg.They were randomly divided into four groups:a control group(fed a basic diet),a low-dose group(basic diet+100 mg/kg of Portulaca oleracea extract),a medium-dose group(basic diet+300 mg/kg of Portulaca oleracea extract),and a high-dose group(basic diet+500 mg/kg of Portulaca oleracea extract),with five replicates per group and ten rabbits per replicate. After a pre-trial period of three days, the formal trial lasted for 42 days. The results demonstrated that:1)Rabbits supplemented with 100 mg/kg,300 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg of Portulaca oleracea extract showed a significant increase in final body weight(FBW)and average daily gain(ADG)compared to the control group(P<0.05),the feed-to-gain ratio(F/G)compared to the control group significant reduce(P<0.05),with no significant differences observed in the average daily feed intake(P>0.05).2)Dietary inclusion of 300 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg of Portulaca oleracea extract resulted in significantly lower serum total cholesterol(TC)and triglycerides(TG)levels, and significantly higher HDL-cholesterol(HDL-C)content in rabbits compared to the control group(P<0.05).Moreover,the addition of 500 mg/kg Portulaca oleracea extract significantly reduced serum LDL-cholesterol(LDL-C)levels(P<0.05).3)The addition of 100 mg/kg,300 mg/kg,and 500 mg/kg Portulaca oleracea extract significantly decreased the cost of weight gain and significantly increased the gross profit(P<0.05).The most effective inclusion level was found to be 300 mg/kg.
