Preparation of calcium citrate malate granules and their application in tablet formulation
Calcium citrate malate granules were prepared using a wet granulation method. The physicochemical properties, dispersibility and morphological characteristics of the granules were characterized. The compressibility of the granules was assessed by measuring weight variation, hardness, friability and disintegration time, along with an exploration of their application in tablets. The results showed that the calcium content, moisture, heavy metals, and other physicochemical indicators of the calcium citrate malate granules met the national standard "GB1903.18-2016 National Food Safety Standard for Nutritional Fortifiers Calcium Citrate Malate". The flowability of the powder was significantly improved, with granular size ranging from 60 to 200 mesh. The tablet hardness increased from 7.41 kg/cm2 to approximately 16.6 kg/cm2 after granulation. Tablets made from these calcium citrate malate granules exhibited high calcium content,no burning sensation,a pleasant taste, and moderate hardness. The calcium citrate malate granules prepared in this study can be used for developing calcium supplement tablets with high absorption rates and better palatability.
