Application of High-Throughput Sequencing Technology in Fecal Microbiota Transplantation
Fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT)is currently one of the most effective treatments for diseases associated with intestinal dysbiosis, such as Clostridium difficile infection, inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome. At present, fecal microbiota drugs such as RBX2660 and Vowst have been approved for market by the U.S.Food and Drug Administration.High-throughput sequencing technology,as a rapidly developing new technology, can analyze the composition and abundance of microbiome by amplifying specific regions of gut microbiota, providing a powerful tool for donor selection, recipient characterization, and monitoring of FMT effect during the FMT procedure. The application of high-throughput sequencing technology can significantly promote quality control during fecal preparation for FMT,identification of functional microorganisms, and long-term monitoring of FMT effect. Therefore, this review aims to summarize the applications of high-throughput sequencing technology in the field of FMT and its future development trends.
