Current Status of Global Regulation of Cultivated Meat and Insights Learned
Alternative proteins,including plant-based,cultivated,and fermentation-derived proteins,are produced through innovative and improved production methods for people's daily protein-rich diet.Alternative proteins have garnered significant attention as an effective means to address the food crisis and enhance the resilience of food systems globally.Cultivated meat and traditional meat products possess significant differences in the production process,hence,it is necessary to develop the safety and risk assessments and regulation framework accordingly.By 2023,two countries have approved cultivated meat products for sale,while other countries and regions have initiated relevant work,such as updating existing policies and regulations or drafting new standards.This article provides an overview of the current regulatory status of cultivated meat in various countries and regions and provides conclusions and perspectives.
