Cohort Studies on Human Breast Milk Composition and Early Life Growth and Development-A Systematic Review
[Objective]Human breast research milk cohort(HMC)is one of the best methods to clarify the relationship between nutri-tion and infant development. This paper reviews the relevant global HMC,in order to establish the foundation for the standardized Chinese HMC.[Method]Through keyword search HMC carried out at China and abroad, the basic information and sampling related bias risk were statistically analyzed and discussed.[Result]A total of 59 literatures and 37 research cohorts were included in the study.Mature milk was collected in all cohorts,38%cohorts collected colostrum and 32%collected transitional milk.43%cohorts described the breast information on the sampling side,57%reported the sampling time and location,81%explained the sampling method, and 54%provided the sampling amount. In addition to breast milk samples,35%collected blood samples from mothers in the third trimester of pregnancy,16%collected umbilical cord blood, and 27%collected feces from newborns.[Conclusion]It is urgent to establish a standardized and representative HMC in China, and its scheme design can learn from the experience of foreign HMC.
