Antidepressant Effects Screening of Three Parts of Cyperus esculentus Extracts and Its Component Analysis
[Objective]The antidepressant effects of extracts from three parts of Cyperus esculentus by using Corticosterone-Induced Drosophila Depression Model, and the components of the volatile oil of rhizome root of Cyperus esculentus which has the strongest anti-depression effect were analyzed.[Method]The mentioned above could provide theoretical basis for further research on the antidepressant ef-fects of Cyperus esculentus.DPPH clearance,ABTS+·clearance and total antioxidant capacity were used to evaluate the antioxidant capac-ity in vitro. Moreover, male fruit flies were randomly divided into control group, model group, fluoxetine group,high-dose group and low-dose group, and SOD,MDA and 5-HT were used as indicators to investigate the antidepressant effect of extracts from all parts of the whole plant of Cyperus esculentus. The components of volatile oil in fibrous root were analyzed by HS-SPME/GC-MS.[Result]The most antidepressant parts of the extracts of Cyperus esculentus were the alcohol extracts of Cyperus esculentus leaves and the essential oil of Cyperus esculentus fibrous roots in vitro. All the extracts of the three parts could increase SOD and 5-HT content and decrease MDA content in Drosophila Depression Model induced by corticosterone. The strongest anti-depression parts were the volatile oil of rhizome root of Cyperus esculentus.[Conclusion]The extracts from three parts of Cyperus esculentus have anti-depressant effects, which may be related to the volatile components, especially ketones.
