Effect of Early Enteral Nutrition Therapy on Nutritional Status and Lung Function in Patients with Severe Respiratory Failure
[Objective]To investigate the effect of early enteral nutrition therapy on nutritional status and lung function in patients with severe respiratory failure.[Method]Totally 126 patients with severe respiratory failure who were hospitalised in the Department of Intensive Care Medicine of Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University from January 2022 to January 2023 were selected as the study subjects. They were divided into control group(55 cases)and observation group(71 cases)according to the random number table. The patients in the control group were given conventional nutritional therapy, and the patients in the observation group were given early enteral nutritional support. Before and after the intervention, the patients'serum total protein(TP),serum prealbumin(PA),serum albumin(ALB),and 24-hour urinary creatinine were measured, and the creatinine height index(CHI)was calculated,so as to compare the changes in nutritional status before and after the intervention.Meanwhile, forceful lung volume(FVC),forceful expiratory volume in one second(FEV 1),and forceful expiratory volume in one second(FEV1/FVC)were measured to compare the changes in pulmonary func-tion of the two groups before and after the intervention. The occurrence of feeding intolerance symptoms was counted in the two groups, and the difference in the occurrence of feeding intolerance between the two groups was compared.[Result]After nutritional intervention, serum ALB,PA,HGB levels,CHI index,FVC,FEV1 and FEV1/FVC indexes of both groups were significantly better than before intervention(P<0.05),and the improvement of the patients in the early enteral nutrition group was significantly better than that of the patients in the control group, and there were statistically significant differences in the comparison of each index(P<0.05).The total incidence of feeding intolerance symptoms was 4.23%in the observation group and 27.27%in the control group, which was significantly lower in the observa-tion group than in the control group(P<0.05).[Conclusion]Early enteral nutrition therapy can effectively improve the nutritional status and lung function of patients with severe respiratory failure, and the incidence of feeding intolerance is significantly lower than that of conventional nutrition therapy,so early enteral nutrition intervention can be carried out for patients with severe respiratory failure in clinical practice.
