Effect of Wheat Bran on Body Weight and Blood Lipid Levels in High-Fat Fed Rats
[Objective]To investigate the effect of wheat bran on body weight and blood lipid level in high-fat fed rats.[Method]A total of 24 SPF male SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups,6 rats in each group, the normal control group was fed with normal diet, and the rest were fed with high-fat diet, among which the high-fat diet group was fed with high-fat feed containing 5%wheat dietary fiber, and the low-fat and high-dose wheat bran groups were fed with high-fat diet containing 10%and 15%wheat dietary fiber, respectively.Rats body weight and food intake are measured and recorded weekly. After 13 weeks of continuous feeding, they were sacrificed, and organ tis-sues and adipose tissues were weighed.Total cholesterol(TC),triglycerides(TG),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)are measured.Body weight, body length,Lee's index, fat index, serum indexes and liver histopathological morphology were compared in each group.[Result]Compared with the normal control group, the weight, body length and Lee's index of the high-fat diet group increased, and the liver, kidney, peritesticular fat, perirenal fat weight, peritesticular fat index, perirenal fat index,TC and LDL-C levels increased, and HDL-C levels decreased(P<0.05).Compared with the high-fat diet group, the Lee's index, liver, kidney, peritesticular fat weight, peritesticular fat index and perirenal fat index were decreased in the low-dose and high-dose wheat bran groups, the serum TC level and HDL-C level were decreased in the low-dose wheat bran group, the serum TG level and HDL-C level were increased in the high-dose group(P<0.05),and the degree of liver steatosis in the low-dose and high-dose wheat bran groups was significantly improved.[Conclusion]Wheat bran can improve the increase of body weight, blood lipid level and liver steatosis caused by high-fat diet, and play an important role in preventing the occurrence of dyslipidemia and obesity.
