Analysis of Dietary Purine Intake of Chinese Adult Residents Between 1991 and 2018
[Objective]To describe the daily dietary purine intake,food sources and trends in 15 provinces(autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government)in China.[Method]Adult residents aged 18 years and older were selected as the study subjects using 11 rounds of follow-up data from the China Health and Nutrition Survey(CHNS)between 1991 and 2018.Dietary surveys were conducted using the three consecutive 24h dietary recalls method to investigate all the foods consumed by the residents and the weighing method to investigate the consumption of condiments.The dietary purine intake and food sources of Chinese residents was calculated based on the food consumption data and the purine content of foods.[Result]Dietary purine(total purine,guanine,adenine,hypoxanthine,xanthine)intake of Chinese adult residents showed an increasing trend from 1991 to 2018,and the dietary purine intake in 2018 increased by 75.9 mg/d,21.0 mg/d,12.9mg/d,36.5mg/d,and 2mg/d,respectively,compared with that in 1991.The proportion of purines from livestock and poultry meat increased from 28.0%in 1991 to 30.4%in 2018,the proportion of purines from seafood increased from 8.2%in 1991 to 11.7%in 2018,and the proportion of purines from vegetables decreased from 21.5%in 1991 to 11.4%in 2018.[Conclusion]The dietary purine intake of Chinese adult residents showed an increasing trend in 1991-2018,and the food sources were mainly animal foods and cereals and potatoes.It is necessary to guide residents to have a reasonable diet and reduce the intake of high purine foods.
