Health Effects of Caffeine on Energy Metabolism:A Qualitative Evidence-Based Study
[Objective]To systematically evaluate the impact of caffeine intake on energy metabolism.[Method]In 7 databases includ-ing CNKI,Wanfang Data,China Biomedical Literature Service System,PubMed,and Embase, relevant Chinese and English literature published domestically and internationally from January 2000 to February 2023 were searched using keywords such as "caffeine""energy metabolism""energy consumption""metabolism""basic metabolism""calories" and "heat consumption". The literature was screened based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, and a comprehensive evaluation of relevant population studies was conducted using China Food and Health Evidence Evaluation method.[Result]A total of 7 articles were included, all of which were randomized controlled trials. In terms of short-term energy metabolism, for the ordinary adults, consuming approximately 140 to 200 mg of caffeine at a time could help increase the body's energy expenditure. The evidence level was good, and the recommended level was B.[Conclusion]For the ordinary adults,a single moderate intake of caffeine can promote energy expenditure, which is reflected in both resting states and during exercise.
