Research Progress on the Application of Fucoidan in Gastrointestinal Diseases
[Objective]To investigate the biological activity of fucoidan and its effects on gastrointestinal diseases to provide scientific support for the research and development of functional food, health products and drugs with low toxic side effects for the prevention and adjuvant treatment of gastrointestinal diseases.[Method]Relevant literature was retrieved and summarized from domestic and international databases using keywords such as fucoidan, sulfated fucans, alginate, gastric mucosal protection, gut microbiota regulation,Helicobacter pylori, and nanoparticles.[Result]Fucoidan has the ability to prevent Helicobacter pylori from adhering to the gastric mucosa, reduce the formation of Helicobacter pylori biofilms, and inhibit the invasion and infection of Helicobacter pylori. It serves as a novel preparation for eradicating Helicobacter pylori, protecting the gastric mucosa, and assisting in the treatment of gastric diseases. The protective effects of fucoidan on the gastrointestinal tract are achieved through the repair of the physicochemical barrier of the gastrointestinal tract,enhance-ment of immune barrier functions, and regulation of the microbial barrier.[Conclusion]Fucoidan plays a protective, modulator and im-mune role in gastrointestinal diseases, and can be used as a dietary supplement for patients with gastric and intestinal cancer to help patients alleviate the side effects of treatment and control the outcome of slowing down the development of diseases.
