Donor haemovigilance (DHV) is one of the main contents of haemovigilance. In recent years,great progress has been made in improving DHV regulations and standards,establishing and developing DHV systems and promoting blood donor safety. Herein we review the contribution of WHO to promote the construction and development of the global haemo-vigilance system,the ethical principles of donor safety of the code of ethics relating to transfusion medicine issued by the In-ternational Society of Blood Transfusion,the standards of blood donation adverse reaction,the systems and achievements of DHV,and put forward prospects and suggestions for further strengthening the safety of blood donors in China.
