Safety Evaluation of BVDV Type 1 KE-9 Gene Deleted Live Vaccine and BVDV Type 2 NY-93 Gene Deleted Live Vaccine in 4-6 Months Old Calves
The study aimed to assess the safety of Bovine viral diarrhea virus(BVDV)type 1 KE-9 gene deleted live vaccine and BVDV type 2 NY-93 gene deleted live vaccine for 4-6 months old calves.A total of 12 calves at age of 4-6 months were randomly assigned to three groups:BVDV type Ⅰ(n=4),BVDV typeⅡ(n=4),and negative control(n=4).On the day of vaccination, calves were given an intramuscular injection of 2.0 mL of either vaccines or diluent, respectively. There was no fever in any of the study animals throughout the entire study. No BVDV related clinical signs or pathological lesions were found in these calves.Leukocytes remained stable compared with baseline throughout the study and no significant difference was found between vaccine groups and negative control group.Only one calf in the BVDV type Ⅱ NY-93 gene deleted live vaccine group was viremic and shed at day 7 post vaccination.Taken together, both BVDV type 1 KE-9 gene deleted live vaccine strain and BVDV type 2 NY-93 gene deleted live vaccine were safe in 4-6 months old calves.
