Research Progress on Multiple Action Mechanisms and Application of Nitazoxanide
Nitazoxanide(NTZ)is an anti-parasitic drug developed in the 1970s and approved by the U.S.Food and Drug Administration(FDA)for the treatment of diarrhea caused by Cryptosporidium or Giardia lamblia, and also approved by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs for the treatment of Canine taeniasis. In recent years, many studies have found that NTZ not only has anti-parasitic effects but also has good activity against a variety of serious pathogenic bacteria and viruses of human or animals. However, the action mechanisms of nitazoxanide against various pathogens exert very differently. In this review,we briefly summarized the research process of the action mechanisms of NTZ on inhibiting the various pathogens so as to provide information for the utilization of NTZ.
