Evaluation of Bactericidal Effect of Hypobromous Acid on Typical Pathogenic Bacteria in Poultry
HaloPure bromine resin is a new type of bactericidal filter material composing of inert porous polymer and oxidizing bromine.Hypobromic acid solution with bactericidal ability forms when water flows through HaloPure bromine resin. This project was performed to evaluate the bactericidal effect of HaloPure hypobromous acid on avian pathogenic Escherichia coli(APEC),Salmonella pullorum and Staphylococcus aureus. The bactericidal effect was evaluated by mixing the bacteria with HaloPure hypobromous acid at different concentrations, time points and pH.The results showed that HaloPure hypobromous acid at 2 mg/L had a very good bactericidal effect as it killed 104-107 CFU/mL APEC,S.pullorum and S.aureus in 1 min with bactericidal rate of 100%.HaloPure hypobromous acid at 0.5-1.5 mg/L also killed 104-107 CFU/mL APEC,S.pullorum and S.aureus in 1 min. However, the bactericidal effect varied for these pathogens at 0.2 mg/L HaloPure hypobromous acid. The time ranges for 0.2 mg/L hypobromous acid to completely kill 107 CFU/mL APEC,S.pullorum and S.aureus were 1 min,10 min and 5 min, respectively. The pH8.5 of water did not affect the bactericidal effect of HaloPure hypobromous acid. The results of this study evaluated the bactericidal effect of hypobromous acid on typical pathogenic bacteria of poultry, indicating its effective sterilization on poultry farms.
