The Role of miRNA During Parasite and Host Co-evolution
As a class of small non-coding RNAs,miRNAs regulate the gene expression through RNAi mechanism. The interaction between the host and parasite, interesting and specialized co-evolutionary process. For parasites,miRNAs are released to facilitate their proliferation in the hosts. As a counterpart, hosts can also resist the invasion of parasites by targeting the genes of parasites with RNAi.miRNAs are involved in immune responses and global gene expression in both hosts and parasites.miRNAs may even play an important role in pathogenesis, parasitism specificity and co-adaptation between parasites and hosts.Studying the miRNA interaction between the parasites and hosts is essential to reveal the host tolerance as well as the trade-off between parasite virulence and transmission during the co-evolutionary process.
