Effects of chlorogenic and caffeic acids on the cryopreservation of semen from Leizhou goats
To improve the quality of frozen-thawed semen, this study investigated the effects of chlorogenic acid(CGA)and caffeic acid(CA)on the cryopreservation of semen from Leizhou goats.100 μmol/L CGA and CA were added to the freezing dilution solution, respectively. The group without addition served as the control, and cryopreservation experiment was conducted. The semen quality was evaluated by assessing frozen-thawed sperm viability, motility, survival rate, plasma membrane integrity, acrosome integrity, and antioxidant indicators such as reactive oxygen species(ROS)level, catalase(CAT),superoxide dismutase(SOD),glutathione peroxidase(GSH-PX),malondialdehyde(MDA),and mitochondrial membrane potential(MMP).The results showed that the addition of CGA and CA in the cryopreservation diluent significantly improved frozen-thawed semen quality(sperm motility, viability, survival rate, etc.)of Leizhou goats(P<0.05).The enzyme activities of SOD,GSH-PX,CAT and MMP were ef-fectively increased(P<0.05),and the sperm ROS level and MDA content were decreased(P<0.05),so the cryopreser-vation effect of Lezhou goats semen was improved. The research results indicate that the quality and antioxidant properties of Leizhou goats semen are significantly improved after frozen-thawed by adding CGA and CA to the frozen preservation diluent, thereby enhancing the cryopreservation effect of Leizhou goats semen.
