Molecular epidemiological investigation of Enterocytozoon bieneusi and Cyclospora sp.in Macaca fascicularis and Macaca mulatta in Yunnan Province
The study aims to investigate the infection and genotype distribution of Enterocytozoon bieneusi and Cyclospora sp.in captive Macaca fascicularis and Macaca mulatta in Yunnan Province,China.A total of 461 fresh fecal samples from captive M.fascicularis and 72 from captive M.mulatta were col-lected from Kunming City and Yuanjiang County of Yuxi City,Yunnan Province.A nested PCR method was used to amplify fecal DNA samples, and detection of E.bieneusi was conducted based on the internal tran-scribed spacer region of the ribosomal RNA gene, while Cyclospora sp.detection was based on the SSUrRNA gene. The results showed that the overall infection rate of E.bieneusi was 1.5%(8/533).Three known genotypes(D,Type Ⅳ and CM1)of E.bieneusi were identified.Additionally, the overall infection rate of Cyclospora sp.was 0.9%(5/533),and sequence alignment only identified one genotype. There were no sta-tistically significant difference in the infection rates of both two parasites between different age groups, genders, species and regions(P>0.05).These findings indicate a low prevalence of E.bieneusi and Cyclospora sp.infections in captive M.fascicularis and M.mulatta in Yunnan Province. However, there exists a potential risk of transmission of these parasites in the region. The research results provide fundamental reference data for the prevention and control of E.bieneusi and Cyclospora sp.infections in captive M.fascicularis and M.mulatta in Yunnan Province,China.
