Analysis of improved alveolar bone mass measurement method based on cone beam CT
Objective To analyze the stability and accuracy of improved alveolar bone mass measurement method based on cone beam CT.Methods From February to October 2023,a retrospective analysis was conducted on clinical and ra-diographic data of 70 patients undergoing tooth extraction surgery in the Department of Oral Surgery, the Third Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Medical University. The measurements of alveolar socket depth after tooth extraction were recorded as the measured group.Based on immediate postoperative CBCT images of the 70 patients, three methods were used by three doctors to measure alveolar bone height and alveo-lar bone width, respectively. These methods were labeled as the study group(improved CBCT measurement meth-od),traditional group A(Ivanova's measurement meth-od),and traditional group B(Pickert's measurement meth-od).In addition, the study group measured the alveolar depth and compared it with the measured group.Intra-class correlation coefficient(ICC)and analysis of variance were used to compare the differences of the three doctors in alveolar bone height and width measurements within each group. Results As for intraclass consistency evaluation, the ICC values for alveolar bone height were 0.972,0.961,and 0.908 for the study group, traditional group A,and traditional group B,respectively, while for alveolar bone width, the ICC values were 0.984,0.927,and 0.901,respectively,demonstrating good measurement consistency(all P<0.001).There was no statistical significance in the measurement results of alveolar bone height and width among 3 doc-tors in the study group(F value was 0.769 and 0.187,respectively,P>0.05).There was statistical significance in the measurement results of alveolar bone height and width between the three doctors in the traditional group A and the tradi-tional group B(P<0.05).The alveolar depth of the study group was(12.64±2.52)mm,and there was no statistical sig-nificance compared with the measured group[(12.42±2.27)mm](t=1.536,P=0.129).Conclusion The modified CBCT measurement method demonstrates superior stability and accuracy in alveolar bone mass measurement. It is recom-mended for wider clinical application.
