Research progress on the role of probiotics and its derivatives in the prevention and treatment of intra-oral hal-itosis
Oral malodor, also known as breath malodor or halitosis,is an unpleasant odor exhaled from oral cavity. In the clinic,80%-90%of it is intra-oral halitosis.Compared with normal individuals, the patients with intra-oral halitosis have an increased diversity of oral microbiota, and an increased proportion of anaerobic bacteria, which is closely related to the imbalance of oral microbiota.Probiotics is defined as living microorganisms which, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host.Prebiotics, synbiotics and postbiotics are derivatives of probiotics, which can rebuild the microorganisms community and improve the micro-ecology.In this paper, the research progress on the role of probiotics and their derivatives in the prevention and treatment of intra-oral halitosis is summarized.
