Research progress on the correlation between inflammatory bowel disease and periodontal diseases and the pre-vention and treatment
Inflammatory bowel disease and periodontal disease are both chronic inflammatory diseases caused by the in-teraction between microbial homeostasis imbalance and host immune inflammatory response. The two may interact with each other through direct or indirect mechanisms, thereby promoting the occurrence of another disease or aggravating its original pathological degree. The direct mechanism is the ectopic colonization of oral microbiota in the intestine, which activates the intestinal immune inflammatory response.Indirect mechanisms include systemic immune activation of blood and lymphatic circulation.Due to the similar pathogenic mechanisms between the two,it may be possible to ex-plore prevention and treatment measures for these two diseases by identifying their common targets. Therefore, this arti-cle provides a review of the research progress on the correlation between inflammatory bowel disease and periodontal dis-ease as well as the prevention and treatment.
