Catheter ablation is an effective treatment for atrial fibrillation(AF)and pulmonary vein isolation(PVI)is the cornerstone. However, classic ablation techniques, such as radiofrequency ablation and cryoballoon ablation.Pulsed field ablation(PFA),is an emerging ablation energy source that can be highly tissue-specific.The well designed PFA energy can cause cardiomyocyte-specific damage safely and efficiently, suggesting a potential alternative method of catheter ablation. This paper provides an overview of the principles, efficacy and safety of PFA in treating AF,as well as the challenges it faces. The development prospect of this field is further discussed.
