Analysis of clinical effect of intramedullary elastic fixation with double titanium needles for the treatment of fifth metacarpal neck fracture
Objective To investigate the clinical effect of intramedullary elastic fixation with double titanium needles for the treatment of fifth metacarpal neck fracture. Methods The data of 20 patients with fifth metacarpal neck fracture treated by intramedullary elastic fixation with double titanium needles were retrospectively analyzed, and the follow-up time, operation time, hospital stay, fracture healing time, complications, and hand function recovery of patients were recorded respectively. Results 2 of 20 patients were lost to follow-up,and the rest were followed up for 6-13 months, with an average of 7.55 months;the operation time was 15-28 min, with an average of 21.30 min;the length of hospital stay was 3-7 d,with an average of 4.85 d;the healing time of 18 cases was 6-10 weeks, with an average of 8.10 weeks. There were no complications such as nerve and tendon injury. The function was evaluated with total active movement(TAM)system at the last time:excellent in 14 cases, good in 3 cases and poor in 1 case, the excellent and good rate was 94.44%(17/18).Conclusion Intramedullary elastic fixation with double titanium needle is one of the effective methods for the treatment of the fifth metacarpal neck fracture, which is simple and easy to operate, and has less trauma, reliable fixation, short operation time and hospital stay, low treatment cost, early functional exercise and good joint function recovery.
