Effect of flaxseed meal on improving malnutrition and micro inflammatory status in peritoneal dialysis patients
Objective To explore the effect of flaxseed meal on improving malnutrition and micro inflammatory status in peritoneal dialysis patients. Methods A total of 60 patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis were randomly divided into a control group and a study group, with 30 patients in each group. The control group received routine nutritional treatment, and the study group received additional flaxseed meal on this basis. Both groups were compared in terms of nutritional status related indexes[serum albumin, serum prealbumin, body mass index(BMI),triceps skin-fold thickness, upper arm muscle circumference]levels, subjective global assessment(SGA)grade,microinflammation-related indexes[hypersensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP),interleukin-6(IL-6),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)]levels before nutritional treatment and 1 and 3 months after nutritional treatment. Results 1 month after nutritional treatment, the serum albumin, serum prealbumin,BMI,triceps skin-fold thickness, and upper arm muscle circumference in the study group were(50.93±5.19)g/L,(336.56±9.77)mg/L,(21.64±1.38)kg/m2,(24.75±3.16)mm,and(21.28±0.48)cm;in the control group, they were(47.86±5.63)g/L,(330.43±10.11)mg/L,(20.82±1.57)kg/m2,(22.89±3.28)mm,and(20.96±0.53)cm.3 months after nutritional treatment, the serum albumin, serum prealbumin,BMI,triceps skin-fold thickness, and upper arm muscle circumference in the study group were(54.22±4.88)g/L,(341.76±9.06)mg/L,(22.49±1.85)kg/m2,(26.69±2.95)mm,and(21.59±0.61)cm;in the control group, they were(50.68±4.75)g/L,(335.51±9.85)mg/L,(21.33±1.63)kg/m2,(24.45±3.22)mm,and(21.15±0.59)cm.1 and 3 months after nutritional treatment, the serum albumin, serum prealbumin,BMI,triceps skin-fold thickness, and upper arm muscle circumference in the study group were greater than those in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).1 and 3 months after nutritional treatment,SGA grade in the study group was better than the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).1 month after nutritional treatment, the hs-CRP levels in the control group and the study group were(17.41±4.16)and(15.26±3.33)mg/L,and IL-6 levels were(42.81±8.83)and(37.46±7.92)ng/L,and TNF-α were(131.31±20.89)and(118.55±17.61)pg/ml.3 months after nutritional treatment, the hs-CRP levels in the control group and the study group were(13.68±3.36)and(11.58±3.15)mg/L,IL-6 levels were(37.29±8.85)and(31.33±8.96)ng/L,and TNF-α were(121.56±18.75)and(110.63±15.75)pg/ml.The hs-CRP,IL-6 and TNF-α of the study group were lower than those of the control group 1 and 3 months after nutritional treatment(P<0.05).Conclusion The use of flaxseed meal in peritoneal dialysis patients can enhance the improvement of malnutrition and micro inflammatory status.
