A case of macular damage caused by electric welding arc light in both eyes
Electric welding is widely used in daily work, but the workers who operate it are often exposed to the arc light of the welding arc, which leads to eye injuries and affects their vision. Therefore, eye protection at work is very important. We have admitted a patient with macular light damage in both eyes due to failure to take eye protection measures during welding work.During this patient's visit, scanning laser ophthalmoscope(SLO),optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA)and optical coherence tomography(OCT)are used to monitor the changes in the retinal macula,to keep abreast of the disease progression and to assess the prognosis.Based on the examination results and the retinal macular damage, the treatment plan was actively adjusted to achieve early detection and early treatment, avoiding further damage to vision due to aggravation of the disease. When the patient has choroidal neovascularization in the macular region of both eyes, intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)injection is promptly taken for treatment, which successfully saves the patient's vision.During the treatment,OCTA is used to record the density and area changes and fluctuations of choroidal neovascularization in the macular area after the injection, and these data brought significant help and benefit to the treatment. Thus,OCTA and OCT have important guiding significance in the treatment of retinal maculopathy-like diseases.
