A study of the sedentary behavior of ex-servicemen in central Shandong Province and its correlation with overweight/obesity and metabolic indexes
Objective To investigate the sedentary behavior(SB)of ex-servicemen in central Shandong Province and analyze its correlation with overweight/obesity and metabolic indexes. Methods A cluster study was conducted to select ex-servicemen from Weifang and Zibo in central Shandong Province, and the general examination item data, experimental examination indexes and sedentary behavior questionnaire survey results of study subjects were collected. The daily sedentary behavior time and nutritional metabolism abnormality of ex-servicemen were analyzed statistically.Comparison was made on daily sedentary behavior time of ex-servicemen with different body mass index(BMI),as well as the detection of abnormal metabolic indexes and overweight/obesity of ex-servicemen with different daily sedentary behavior time. Results The average daily sedentary behavior time of the 151 ex-servicemen was(6.43±1.72)h,and the percentage of daily sedentary behavior time≥6 h was 64.24%(97/151).The detection rate of overweight/obesity was 60.93%(92/151),the detection rate of blood glucose abnormality was 33.77%(51/151),the detection rate of triglyceride abnormality was 27.81%(42/151),the detection rate of cholesterol abnormality was 41.72%(63/151),the detection rate of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol abnormality was 18.54%(28/151),and the detection rate of uric acid abnormality was 29.80%(45/151).The daily sedentary behavior time of normal weight, overweight and obese ex-servicemen were(5.49±1.40),(6.31±1.31)and(8.21±1.42)h,respectively.The daily sedentary behavioral time was significantly increased in overweight and obese ex-servicemen compared to normal weight ex-servicemen,and the obese ex-servicemen was significantly longer than the overweight ex-servicemen(P<0.05).The detection rates of blood glucose abnormality, triglyceride abnormality, cholesterol abnormality, uric acid abnormality, and overweight/obesity in ex-servicemen with daily sedentary behavior time<6 h were 18.52%,12.96%,27.78%,18.52%,and 31.48%,those in ex-servicemen with daily sedentary behavior time<8 h and≥6 h were 41.07%,35.71%,48.21%,35.71%,and 73.21%,and those in ex-servicemen with daily sedentary behavior time≥8 h were 43.90%,36.59%,51.22%,36.59%,and 82.93%.Compared with the ex-servicemen with daily sedentary behavior time<6 h,the detection rates of overweight/obesity,blood glucose abnormality, triglyceride abnormality, cholesterol abnormality and uric acid abnormality were significantly increased in the ex-servicemen with daily sedentary behavior time<8 h and≥6 h or with daily sedentary behavior time≥8 h(P<0.05).Conclusion The longer the time of daily sedentary behavior of ex-servicemen,the higher the incidence of BMI and metabolic index abnormalities, and controlling the time of their daily sedentary behavior is conducive to reducing the incidence of overweight/obesity and metabolic abnormalities.
