Double carcinoma:a case of left lung adenocarcinoma complicated with intrathyroid thymic carcinoma
Multiple primary carcinoma(MPC),also known as duplicated carcinoma, refers to two or more unrelated primary malignant tumors occurring simultaneously or sequentially in the same organism. With modern medical advances, multiple primary carcinomas are not rare, and the prevalence of multiple primary malignant neoplasms(MPM)in all oncology patients is estimated to range from 0.73%to 5.20%,and this wide variation is associated with different experiences of doctors using different diagnostic tools and in different hospitals.Lung cancer has the highest mortality rate, and a large number of early stage lung cancers have been screened for due to low-dose lung cancer screening and increased health awareness. With improvements in treatment modalities, such as molecularly-targeted therapies, there have been a large number of advances in the prognosis of lung cancers, and as a result, patients are surviving long enough to develop subsequent primary tumors;however, lung cancers combined with intrathyroidal thymic carcinomas(ITTCs)are rare.
