Effect of HAART as an adjunct to traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome patients and its influence on immune function reconstruction
Objective To analyze the effect of highly active antiretroviral therapy(HAART)as an adjunct to traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome patients and its influence on immune function reconstruction.Methods 30 cases of HIV-infected patients treated with HAART as an adjunct to traditional Chinese medicine were selected.Blood routine test,liver function,kidney function,CD4+cells and therapeutic effect were analyzed before,during and after taking the traditional Chinese medicine.The CD4+T lymphocyte count,blood routine,liver function,kidney function before taking the traditional Chinese medicine,after taking the traditional Chinese medicine for 1 month and after stopping the traditional Chinese medicine,therapeutic effect and adverse reaction were compared.Results The CD4+T-lymphocyte counts of the patients were(327.35±21.10)/mm3 and(329.10±21.18)/mm3 after taking the traditional Chinese medicine for 1 month and stopping the traditional Chinese medicine,which were significantly higher than(278.23±20.03)/mm3 before taking the traditional Chinese medicine,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After taking the traditional Chinese medicine for 1 month and stopping the traditional Chinese medicine,the white blood cell count were(6.10±1.56)×109/L and(6.07±1.50)×109/L,the platelet count were(152.12±50.12)×109/L and(150.09±50.08)×109/L,the serum creatinine were(511.32±86.79)and(511.30±86.73)μmol/L,the blood urea nitrogen were(16.77±3.27)and(16.73±3.22)mmol/L,and the blood β2-microglobulin were(18.12±2.28)and(18.10±2.27)mg/L,which were significantly lower than(8.45±1.92)×109/L,(192.34±70.23)×109/L,(803.37±120.35)μmol/L,(27.38±5.42)mmol/L,and(29.30±5.31)mg/L before taking the traditional Chinese medicine;the lymphocyte percentage were(29.24±6.17)%and(29.27±6.19)%,which was significantly higher than(25.34±5.10)%before taking the traditional Chinese medicine;the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in alanine aminotransferase,aspartate aminotransferase,and direct bilirubin levels before taking the traditional Chinese medicine,after taking the traditional Chinese medicine for 1 month,and after stopping the traditional Chinese medicine(P>0.05).CD4+T lymphocyte efficacy after stopping the traditional Chinese medicine:7 cases were effective,20 cases were stable,and 3 cases were ineffective.Symptoms and signs efficacy:18 cases were effective,7 cases were stable,and 5 cases were ineffective.No serious adverse reactions were found in the course of treatment,and there was no obvious damage to the liver and kidney.Conclusion HAART as an adjunct to traditional Chinese medicine can enhance and stabilize the immune function of patients,improve their quality of life,and some patients have recovered their labor ability.The main laboratory indicators tend to undergo benign changes.The immune function(CD4+T lymphocytes)of patients gradually increases,remains stable for a long time,or delays its decline rate.
