The role of basic therapy combined with periodontal maintenance in the treatment of chronic periodontitis
Objective To analyze the value of basic therapy combined with periodontal maintenance in the treatment of chronic periodontitis. Methods 102 patients with chronic periodontitis were divided into an observation group and a control group according to random numerical table, with 51 cases in each group. The control group was treated with basic periodontal therapy,on the basis of which, the observation group was treated with periodontal maintenance therapy. The clinical efficacy, periodontal index[plaque index (PLI),gingival sulcus bleeding index (SBI),clinical attachment loss (CAL),probing depth (PD)],treatment satisfaction and recurrence rate were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate of 96.08% in the observation group was significantly higher than 82.35% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the observation group had PLI of (0.83±0.21),SBI of (1.32±0.27),CAL of (3.46±0.62) mm and PD of (2.92±0.63) mm,which were significantly lower than (1.72±0.34),(2.44±0.40),(4.54±0.57) mm and (4.98±0.67) mm in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The total satisfaction of treatment in the observation group was 98.04%,which was significantly higher than 86.27% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). During the follow-up period, the recurrence rate of periodontitis in the observation group was 0,which was lower than 7.84% (4/51) in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (x2=4.163,P<0.05). Conclusion The combined application of basic therapy and periodontal maintenance in the treatment of chronic periodontitis can improve the clinical efficacy, improve the periodontal health and reduce the recurrence rate. The patients are more satisfied with the treatment,so it is worth popularizing.
