This study conducted a retrospective analysis of 6 822 canine X-ray examinations cases at China Agricultural University Veterinary Teaching Hospital from January to December 2022 to investigate the specific applications of X-ray examinations in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of dogs and to identify the main abnormal diagnoses. The results showed that 684 cases(10.03%)were under 1 year old,2 101 cases(30.80%)were between 1 and 7 years old,and 4 037 cases(59.18%)were over 7 years old. There were 2 828 males(41.45%),1 169 castrated males(17.14%),1 464 females(21.46%),and 1 361 sterilized females(19.95%).A total of 8 539 X-ray examinations were performed, including 8 510 plain film examinations and 29 contrast radiographs. The most common examination sites for plain film examinations were the chest(3 191/8 510,37.50%),limbs(3 023/8 510,35.52%),axial skeleton(1 476/8 510,17.34%),and abdomen(820/8 510,9.64%).The main radiographic abnormalities in the chest were lung nonstructural interstitial pattern(939/3 191,29.43%)and cardiac shadow enlargement(649/3 191,20.34%);in the limbs, the main abnormality was osteoarthritis(1 089/3 023,36.02%);in the axial skeleton, the primary abnormalities were narrowed intervertebral spaces(876/1 476,59.35%)and degenerative changes(443/1 476,30.01%);in the abdomen, the most common abnormality was lower urinary tract calculus(261/820,31.83%).Contrast examinations included 25 cases of retrograde urography and 4 cases of digestive tract contrast radiography. The main abnormal findings/diagnoses detected in retrograde urography were urethrostenosis(7/25,28.00%),while the main abnormal findings/diagnoses detected in digestive tract contrast radiography were contrast media remain(3/4,75.00%).The results indicate that X-ray examinations are widely used in the diagnosis and treatment of canine clinical diseases, particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases, osteoarticular diseases, and urinary tract diseases.
