Parentage and Resistance and Adaptability Analysis of Sugarcane Variety Guitang 55
[Objective]Smut is a major disease in sugarcane.This study aims to analyze the genetic mechanisms underlying the resistance traits of the smut-resistant sugarcane variety'Guitang 55',providing references for its rational promotion and utilization.[Method]By examining the parentage of the sugarcane variety'Guitang 55'and summarizing results from multi-site,multi-year resistance tests against smut disease and comparative trials,this paper highlights its resistance and adaptability characteristics.[Result]The results showed that'Guitang 55'was the F4 of S.spontaneum of Taiwan and Java,and the F5 of S.spontaneum of India,exhibiting considerable genetic heterogeneity.'Guitang 55'inherits many excellent traits from its parents,such as smut resistance,tolerance of cold and drought,high storability,strong ratooning ability and high yield.The smut resistance of'Guitang55'reached grade 2,with an incidence rate of 6.1%testing by the Quality Inspection and Testing Center for Sugarcane and Products of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.Under natural drought conditions in 2019,the plant height of'Guitang55'was equal or slightly higher than'Xintaitang 22'(CK),and the yield of'Guitang55'increased by 4.91%-20.07%as compared with the CK.Although seed cane had endured for one month of field storage,the germination rate of'Guitang 55'still reached 62.00%.According to the comparison tests within multi-year by multi-site from 2015 to 2021,it showed that cane yield and sugar yield of'Guitang 5'was higher than that CK,and the yield and sucrose content of'Guitang 55'were equal to main cultivars'Guitang42'and'Guiliu05-136'.In 2015-2017,results from ten perennial tests indicated that the'Guitang 55'consistently increased its yield on ratoon crop.In the variety comparative test,The yield of second ratoon cane was significantly higher than the first ratoon crop,and it maintainced 3 or more ratoon crops.[Conclusion]With a rich wild ancestry,wide genetic basis and great genetic heterogeneity,'Guitang 55'showed strong stress tolerance,extensive adaptability,strong ratoon ability,and excellent yield.'Guitang 55'should be further used in production.
