The Development Experience of Self-Contained Classrooms in the United States and Implications for China
Self-contained classrooms are organized by ordinary schools for children and adolescents with moderate to severe disabilities.This model is an important part of the educational placement of children with disabilities.At present,China pays little attention to self-contained classrooms,either in practice or at the research level.In the United States,self-contained classrooms are diverse in variety,level and experience.This article provides an analysis of self-contained classrooms about the developmental stage,conceptual connotation,teachers,curriculum and teaching,and difficulties in the United States.Also,this article puts forward suggestions for the development of self-contained classrooms in China,such as clarifying the positioning of self-contained classrooms,promoting multidisciplinary collaboration,standardizing the implementation of curriculum and teaching,and strengthening the planning and management.
