Gesture is a typical non-verbal communication modality that plays an important role in the development of language, cognition and social skills in early life.Through a systematic review of related studies,it is foundthat gestures of children with autism show different characteristics from those of typically developing children in early life, mainly in the developmental delay of gesture output and comprehension, the lack of diversity in type and function and the difficulty of synergy with verbal modality, but the research results in this area need to be deepened.Future research should explore the neurobiological mechanisms of early gesture development in children with autism, focus on the role of gestures in the early identification and detection of autism, continue to promote early gesture intervention in children with autism, and attempts to advance multimodal communicative corpus building.
