Touching the Symbols of Civilization:Hotspots and Evolutionary Trends in Chinese Braille Research—A Visual Analysis Based on Four Decades of Publications
Over the past 150 years,Chinese Braille has emerged as a pivotal civilizational symbol, fostering the equitable participation and inclusive development of the visually impaired community. This study utilizes CiteSpace software to conduct a visual analysis of 1,558 Braille research articles published from 1981 to 2023.The findings reveal that the number of studies shows a fluctuating growth trend, with a notable concentration of publications originating from higher education institutions and publishing entities in China's economically advanced eastern regions. The authors are characterized by clear academic backgrounds, which forms multicore synergistic academic research communities. The existing literature mainly focuses on five subject areas:the development and popularization of standardized Braille,Braille publishing and printing, the development of public library Braille service systems,Braille literacy assistive technology and Braille teaching materials and curriculum instruction. These studies focus on describing the development process from"paper-based Braille"to"social Braille"and then to"digital Braille",and emphasize the emerging frontier of Braille system standardization and digital conversion.Moving forward,Chinese Braille research should be based on cross-disciplinary collaboration, driven by school education, oriented towards social integration, and powered by digital innovation, advancing toward greater specialization, personalization, accessibility, and depth in the field.
