Role of neuroglia in neuropathic pain and comorbid depression
Patients with neuropathic pain often suffer from comorbid emotional disorders such as depression.Previous studies have demonstrated that neuroglia play a crucial role in the generation and persistence of both central and peripheral neuropathic pain.Meanwhile,there is also evidence indicating the involvement of neuroglia in the pathogenesis of depression.Nevertheless,a comprehensive and systematic review of the specific mechanism of neuroglia in neuropathic pain and depression is still lacking.Therefore,this paper systematically reviews the relevant research achievements of neuroglia in neuropathic pain and comorbid depression in recent years.Through this analysis,we have identified a bridging function of neuroglia in the comorbidity of neuropathic pain and depression.This review is expected to providea new insight into treatment strategies for neuropathic pain and offer valuable references for future mechanistic studies.
