On the Cultural Translation of Chinese Folk Music from the Perspective of Cross-cultural Communication of the Folksong"Jasmine Flower"
The predecessor of the folk song"Jasmine Flower,"which originates in the later Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty,is widely spread throughout China and has undergone several evolutions before its spread to Europe at the end of the 18th century.Musicologist Qian Renkang argued that"Jasmine Flower"is the first Chinese folk song to be taken abroad,and it is also the traditional Chinese repertoire that has attracted the most attention from musicologists and composers.His argument has exerted the greatest international influence,making it a classic case that cannot be avoided in the study of cross-cultural communication of Chinese music.The study of its cross-cultural communication mechanism is of great importance in terms of providing implications and reference for the overseas communication of Chinese music culture.In this article,we expounds the whole process of the communication of"Jasmine Flower"in a cross-cultural context from the perspective of communication and cultural studies,analyzes its evolution from musical texts to cultural connotations in different cultural contexts,as well as the internal reasons for this evolution.It enriches the music denotation of Walter Benjamin's definition of translatability and cultural translation,and attempts to establish a theoretical module of music cross-cultural communication based on the case of the cultural translation realized by"Jasmine Flower,"in order to promote the overseas image of Chinese culture,and to help launch more Chinese music with cultural symbolic significance to the world.
